Suzuki Alto

Suzuki Alto The New Rival For Viva!

For a thing that comes from India, you'd expect it to be quirky in design like a Mahindra Scorpio or basic-utilitarian like Tata's pickups. But the Suzuki Alto isn't anything like that.

It's a future-proof car designed by Suzuki, incorporating European styling preferences, money-saving features and environmental considerations.

Slightly smaller than the ever popular Perodua Myvi but lighter, the Alto looks refreshingly stylish and promises to get you from point A to point B in safety and comfort while saving on fuel.

Say what you may about an eco-friendly, fuel saving car, but if looks butt-ugly, no one's going to want to buy it unless he or she really doesn't care about looking silly in a butt-ugly car. So, for a car to sell, it needs to be stylish and eye-catching.

As style preferences go, European style preferences tend to help cars sell better than those that adopt other style preferences. Hence, it is smart of Suzuki to adopt contemporary design elements found in popular European small cars epitomised by the Fiat 500.

More than that, the Alto has a very low drag coefficient of 0.30 and its body is strong enough to earn a 4-star Euro NCAP rating (according to Suzuki). At the same time, the body uses a lot of high-tensile steel, resulting in a good weight-to-power ratio, which makes the Alto feel nippy and sip (instead of guzzle) fuel.

Most important of all, the Alto comes with airbags (including curtain airbags for side-impact) as well as anti-brake lock system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and brake assist - these are crucial for you to avoid accidents.

All this and more for about RM51,000+, which is about RM6,000 more than the smaller Viva Elite of comparable specifications and about RM5,000 cheaper than the Myvi of similar specifications.

Personally, if I were in the market for a small new car, the Alto is probably what I'd go for.

So what do you think?

Perodua viva spoiler

Install A Rear Car Spoiler..

While not everyone may feel they possess the ability to address their own automotive needs, the ability to install a rear car spoiler is a task that can be accomplished by most people if they follow basic directions closely. When a car owner installs a rear car spoiler it immediately makes an aesthetic impact on the car's appearance for the better, and in many cases affects the car's resale value in a positive fashion. The most important thing to remember when installing a rear car spoiler is to take your time to do a good and proper job and the result will be as good as any done by a professional.

The first step to install a rear car spoiler is to select the style and color that suits personal preference. It is always a wise move regardless of your mechanical skills to purchase a rear car spoiler that comes with all of the necessary hardware for installation. It is also prudent to purchase a complete rear car spoiler kit that contains clear and concise instructions for installation. While most of these are in the form of written instructions, some of the better rear car spoiler kits have how-to-videos that can really simplify the job.

After purchasing a rear car spoiler kit, take a tarp or blanket and cover the inside of the car's trunk and wipe the trunk lid on the exterior with a cloth to present a clean surface. The rear car spoiler kit should come with a set of rubber gaskets that are first installed on the feet of the car spoiler. There are also usually a set of drill guides that are easily attached to the spoiler next by using common masking tape. The next step to install a rear car spoiler is to align the spoiler in the proper position on the car, and then securely tape the drill guides to the car and remove the tape that held the guides to the spoiler. It is now a simple procedure to drill the holes in the car's trunk through the drill guide. Remove and discard the drill guides from the trunk lid.

The final step to install a rear car spoiler is to position the rear car spoiler, lining up the holes that have drilled and inserting the screws through the inside of the trunk lid into the spoiler finger-tight. After all of the screws have been installed in this manner, tighten the screws using a drill or a screwdriver and the job of installing a rear car spoiler is complete.

Lowering Your Viva

Here the bottomline on lowering your car.

Many think that the keys to good handling are super-low profile tires, stiff springs, rock-hard shocks, wrist-thick "sway" bars, and slammed-to-the-ground suspensions. "Many" are mistaken. Done haphazardly, these "improvements" can make a car SLOWER around a racetrack and punishing on the street.

Radical Lowering
Let's start with radical lowering. It's easy to take the suspension out of its optimal operating range, which means the tires aren't level with the road during braking and cornering. Do we need to say that this hurts grip? Also, an over-lowered suspension will likely toe in or out as the wheels move over bumps and during cornering. This is called bump-steer. If bump-steer happens in the rear, it feels like you're driving a hook-and-ladder fire truck with an uncooperative trailer driver. In the front, it feels as if the steering has a mind of its own.

Even worse is when the over-lowered suspension hits the limit of its travel during a hard corner. The suspension literally bangs into its bump stop. The spring rate at that corner goes toward infinity and the grip goes toward zero. If this happens to the rear suspension in a hard corner, the car will snap sideways. If the front hits its bump stop, the car will take off on a tangent as if you were swinging a rock on a string and suddenly let go. Either way, it's totally unpredictable for the driver. One of the worst things for a driver is a suspension that just barely taps the bump-stops every now and then—the car acts like it's demonically possessed and the poor driver can't figure out why.

Show or Go?
Racers lower their cars to reduce the center of gravity, which can improve cornering. But then they raise suspension-mounting points and install completely redesigned components, so the suspension remains in its designed operating range. For the street, slammed suspensions are strictly for show, not go.

Total Package
If you're determined to lower your suspension, buy a complete kit from an established tuner. Talk to someone who's installed the package. Stiffening suspension springs or anti-roll bars (often incorrectly called sway bars) REDUCE grip on that end of the car. The correct technique is to use as soft a spring/bar package as will do the job.

Thinking of to install parking sensor to your Viva?
This is maybe useful info to you.

Reversing sensor, also known as parking assist system, or backup computer alert system. Typically, parking sensor from the ultrasonic sensor (commonly known as probes), controller and display (or buzzer) and other components. Principle of ultrasonic distance measurement system, under the control of the controller, the ultrasonic emission sensor signals, when the encounter obstacles, the generated echo signal, the sensor receives the echo signal data processing by the controller to determine the obstacle position, distance and issued by the display of other warning signals, timely warning, so do the hearts of drivers reversing the "numbers" to make reversing easier. Parking sensor before the market several brand as much as 20 in price from 34 to one or two hundred thousand dollars, and many owners do not know what to compare and choose. By the author of parking sensor products on the market analysis, prompts the user to choose the six parking sensor notes.

1. Function

More complete functional should have a distance display parking sensor, audible alarm, regional alerts and orientation instructions, some products also have the Power On Self Test function. There is also currently on the market with voice alarm products, the feature gives the feeling is very direct, but the main problems is the alarm hysteresis, so that drivers brake late, the not practical. In accordance with the display is divided into parking sensor with LED display, also called ultrasonic backup sensor, and rearview monitor parking Sensor.
.

2. Performance

Performance mainly from the detection range, accuracy, stability and capture target display rate to consider. Detection range, most of the product range of 0.4 ~ 1.5m, a good product can reach 0.35 ~ 2.5m, shown in Figure 2. Wide range of parking sensor reversing always detected ahead of target, and the excessive pursuit of the minimum detection distance is meaningless, because the actual use must be fully considered when the inertia brake factors. Detection accuracy, mainly depends on two aspects: One, display resolution, the general products of 10 cm, while a good product can reach 1 cm; second is to look at measurement error, which shows the distance between the actual distance Error, 10cm diameter pipe can be placed in position around 1m comparison, the good product of measurement error should be less than 3cm. Show stability, is not a good reflector in the barrier case, the ability to consistently capture and stable showing obstacle distance. Capture the target rate, reflecting the parking sensor on the ability to capture moving objects. This is to prevent similar child or a cyclist suddenly from the rear view through the driver caused crashes less important. In short, reversing radar performance requirements are: measured accurately measured stability, range, capture speed.

3. Appearance Technology

As the car inside and outside decorations, displays and sensors installed to consider whether the appearance, and vehicles are coordinated. From the sensor shape, one can choose a button style and fusion of two, button-type sensor surface is flat, the surface of sensor fusion is a shape change, the pursuit of a natural transition with the rear bumper. Judging from the size, there are ultra-small, medium and large size, relatively large size of the atmosphere, relatively small, hidden, depending on the size of the rear bumper and personal preferences. From the color point of view, should be chosen with the vehicles after the bars the same or similar color. Monitors should be based on the driver's parking habits use front-or rear, and in order to clear, beautiful as the standard, some products can use both monitors.

4. Quality and Reliability

Parking sensor as automotive supplies, due to its higher quality and reliability requirements, the average consumer it is difficult to determine the index. Good quality products to provide better services, commitment to OZ and repairing a longer period, it is recommended you select the period of 2 years for repairing the product.

Nice Bodykits For Viva

Viva SE

Theophilus Chin works his magic with Photoshop again to tease our imagination with his concept of how a special edition kitted up Perodua Viva might look like. His Perodua Viva Special Edition was created by adding the original Daihatsu Charade’s front bumper, widening its corner vents, adding fog lights from Peugeot 207 GTi, widening the front and rear wheel fenders, adding bigger wheels and rims from the Peugeot 207 GTi, deeper side skirt, black B and C-pillars, darkened headlights surrounds, a new grille from Mazda 3, and finally doing the body up in a metallic red-ish tone.

i wonder if any accessories shop will come out with this nice bodykits.

All new Toyota Passo/Daihatsu Boon will be as New Perodua Viva

TMC Launches Redesigned ‘Passo’

Vehicle Comes in Two Model Styles: ‘Passo’ and ‘Passo + Hana’

Tokyo-TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces the launch in Japan today of the redesigned “Passo” compact hatchback.

The second-generation Passo further refines the highly maneuverable compact body, spacious interior and class leading1 fuel efficiency and environmental performance of the popular first-generation Passo released in June 2004, with the new vehicle embodying input, from the planning stage, from female consumers in Japan. This development has taken the Passo to the next level and demonstrates TMC’s ongoing efforts to design vehicles to meet consumer needs.

The vehicle comes in two distinct model styles: the simple and unpretentious “Passo”, which offers a sense reassurance and familiarity, and the “Passo + Hana”, which imbues an understated glamour for a strong impression. These unique designs, along with 11 available body colors, create variety that enables vehicle selection ideally suited to express individuality. Thanks to efforts made to enhance ease-of-operation, utility and drivability, including the redesign of the front pillars for better visibility and the creation of more storage space within easy reach of the driver, the vehicle is more appealing than ever-especially with its highly affordable price, which starts at 1 million yen.

Perodua Viva Airbags

This is the newly launched car by Perodua.

Pros:The interior of the car looks very space efficient for a small car of 660 c.c. It has DVVT variable valve timing and FEVE engine. Pretty impressive for a car with maket price of only RM 28 400. The fuel consumption is 18.7 km per litre which is indeed very economical for town ride. All the four doors can be opened much wider than other Perodua car. There is even a tray for storage under the passenger seat since theft of valuables in car are so rampant now and the designer do take this point into account. For audio there is radio and cassette player which is more than enough for my listening pleasure during driving. There is a lot of le room and headroom for a tall person like me.

Cons: The only thing I can think of is: Why there is no air bag in this model while the 850c.c. and 1000c.c. all have airbags. Are lower income group of people's life cheaper?

Perodua Alza: First Perodua MPV

New arrival! Perodua Alza

Here it is – the new Perodua Alza! We’ve been following the development of this MPV ever since we first got news of its existence back in early 2008, where it was reported that Toyota and Daihatsu were going to build a new MPV and produce it in Indonesia. When the Daihatsu Luxio MPV came out we all got a shock – that more of a van so we waited patiently until Christmas last year when the Toyota Passo Sette was finally unveiled in Japan. Nearly a year later, the Perodua-badged model with a new front, rear and interior is here.

How much is the new Perodua Alza?

So anyway, here we are finally, the Perodua Alza. The smaller MPV also comes with a smaller price tag, though Proton has worked to introduce the Exora Basic as well. Perodua says the Alza project first started off as the D46T about 3 years ago. The Japanese version was unveiled on Christmas day last year.

For standard 1.5L version:

Perodua Alza 1.5L Standard M/T
Solid – RM55,490
Metallic – RM55,990
S. Metallic – RM56,190

Perodua Alza 1.5L Standard A/T
Solid – RM58,490
Metallic – RM58,990
S. Metallic – RM59,190

For premium 1.5L version:

Perodua Alza 1.5L Premium M/T
Solid – RM60,490
Metallic – RM60,990
S. Metallic – RM61,190

Perodua Alza 1.5L Premium A/T
Solid – RM63,490
Metallic – RM63,990
S. Metallic – RM64,190

Datuk Syed Hafiz of Perodua revealed that a sportier version with a bodykit, GPS navigation and a reverse camera will be introduced in March 2010, though I think showrooms are already taking bookings for this version now. This model will be premium and auto-only, and will go for RM69,990 which is RM6k on top of the Metallic Premium automatic.

Perodua claims 12.7 km per liters with the automatic transmission model and 15.5 km per liters with the manual transmission model. This is based on their own internal “Perodua mixed mode test”, so these numbers will be different from the Passo Sette’s which are based on Japan 10-15 mode.

Car washing tips

It?s simple to wash your car, but you want to do it right. Here are a few tips to protect your car and get it clean.
Sharing Tips For Car Beauty

* Don?t use dish soap. Many people think that this is an acceptable cleaning agent for cars--it?s not. Go to an auto store and look for soaps made specifically for vehicles.

* Use a bucket to mix the soap with water and wash using a big mitt or large sponge. Remember to rinse the sponge/mitt it often to avoid scrubbing dirt and grime back into your car?s finish.

* Wash your car in the shade so that the car itself is cool and you won?t have the sun drying it faster than you can work, leaving spots.

* Start with the wheels, one at a time. Hose down one wheel and then spray on a wheel cleaner on the wheel AND rim. Using a brush scrub down all the dirt and mud. Rinse, and then move on to the next wheel. You?ll be surprised at how nice they look!

* Use a trigger nozzle on the end of the hose. If conserves water and will give a nice, even spray.

* Hose down the car, from top to bottom.

* Using your mitt or sponge, scrub the roof, in straight lines, from the innermost part out to the edges. Using a circular motion is not recommended. Rinse the hood.

* Next, do the sides in the same manner, using straight strokes from top to bottom. Remember to rinse the sponge or mitt frequently!

* After rinsing the sides, do the hood and the trunk.

* Be sure to pay special attention to the bumpers and fenders, especially in the front where bugs tend to accumulate. You?ll probably need extra elbow grease here!

* After these surface areas are finished, spray down the undercarriage to remove the dirt and mud buildup.

* Once the car is completely rinsed, you?ll want to use a clean, soft cloth to dry it. You?ll want to run it lightly over the surface of the car to smooth out the water droplets. Don?t try to rub out the water. You might need to use more than one cloth, depending on its size and the size of your vehicle.

* Waxing should be done according to the wax product?s dircetions, only after your car is completely dry. You should try to wax your car 3 or 4 times per year.

* For the interior, no vacuum works better than one at the do-it-your-self car wash, but if you don?t have access to one, start by shaking out all removable rugs and mats. Vacuum those outside the car and then move in to get what remins. Check our the auto store for cleansers to wash the dash and interior. Like the no-no on the dish soap, you?ll want to find something that works best on your specific interior. Be sure to read all labels and follow instructions exactly. Remember that the better you care for your car, the better you?ll feel driving it, and your resale value will be tremendously higher if you pay attention to cleaning.

happy Washing!

Fitting a Car Performance Body Kit

How To Match Your Car Performance Body Kit

Choosing the right car performance body kit for your vehicle depends upon whether you're adding these features for performance, style or a combination of both. In addition, cost and materials can be significant factors when you select the skirt, spoilers and bumpers for your car.

Step 1
Select a car performance body kit based upon your specific performance needs. For instance, a ground skirt kit can improve aerodynamics and reduce the amount of lift underneath your car, which could cause you to lose control at high speeds. A spoiler on the rear deck lid can also reduce wind resistance and carve a few tenths of a second off your sprint times.

Step 2
Choose a body kit for your performance car based upon the materials used and the overall cost of those materials. For instance, fiberglass offers a better-looking level of fit and finish over urethane and is less expensive, but it is easily damaged in collisions. In addition, new types of resin-infused fiberglass have been developed in the United States in recent years, which combine the strengths of both materials at a significantly higher cost.

Step 3
Ask for the manufacturer's recommendations when you select a car performance body kit. By checking with the car maker, you may be able to find a body kit that has been designed with your specific make and model in mind. By picking a body kit that has been approved by the manufacturer, you may reduce the chances of voiding your warranty due to excessive modifications.

Step 4
Seek the advice of a respected body kit installer for a specific recommendation for your vehicle. These installers should have a lot of experience with what does and doesn't work out in the street and on the track. Ask for references, look at their portfolios and discuss your options.

Step 5
Use online resources, such as Mudah.my or any other Car Modifications sites, to select the right body kit for your performance car (see Resources beside). Many of these websites offer virtual galleries so that you can see mock-ups of the body kits on your specific vehicle before you make a purchase.

Hyundai i10 versus Perodua Viva - Compact wars!

Here Comes The New Challenger!

Hyundai Sime-Darby Motor has launched the new Hyundai i10 5-door hatchback in Malaysia. The i10 replaces the Atos in the Hyundai global line-up but in certain countries like India, both the Atos (Santro) and the i10 is offered, with the latter being the more premium product. In fact, the i10 we get here comes from India where both the Atos and i10 are very very popular products, instead of Korea.

All the basics that will make the new Hyundai a popular runabout are there: a small luggage space extendable via the foldable rear seats and a 4-speed automatic. It chugs along via a 1.1 liter Epsilon family engine (sadly not the new Kappa 1.2 liter) putting out 65.8 horsepower at 5,500rpm and 99.1Nm of torque at a lower than usual 2,800rpm which should allow it to feel pretty zippy around town.

Safety features include a 4-star Euro NCAP body, dual SRS airbags and anti-lock brakes. In-car entertainment is an integrated 2-DIN audio CD player with MP3 and aux input support. The interior is rather monotonous and basic with endless fields of grey but there is a slight touch of “high-end” thanks to the dash-mounted shift lever instead of it being in the conventional position between the two front seats.

So you have decent safety specs, an acceptable level of in-car entertainment, an automatic gearbox, an engine that puts out peak torque at a low-mid RPM, and a price under RM50k. This should theoretically be very popular with city dwellers, especially since its claimed to have a 17.2km per liter combined fuel economy. It’s also got nice styling, being the first Hyundai car in Malaysia with the new naming scheme and design language that debuted with the i30. But Malaysians are just too brand conscious.

The 4-speed auto model retails for RM48,888 OTR with insurance and comes with a 5-year (300,000km) warranty. It is available in five colours: alpine blue, blushing red, stone black, sleek silver and champagne gold. A 5-speed manual version (that is claimed to get 20km per liter) is also available but strangely Hyundai’s press kit does not mention its price. This story will be updated later when the price is available.

The badging on the car is a little confusing but somehow expected. It has a combination of both Inokom and Hyundai logos and badges around the car.

History Of The Kancil

The first Malaysian compact car Perodua Kancil

The Perodua Kancil (also known as the Perodua Nippa in the United Kingdom, and the Daihatsu Ceria in Indonesia) is a city car manufactured by Malaysian automobile manufacturer Perodua since 1994. The Kancil is named after the mousedeer (chevrotain) native to Malaysia.

Overview

The Kancil was Perodua's first car after its founding in 1993. It is a small five-door hatchback vehicle on a monocoque framework that could seat five people. The Kancil and its predecessors are actually a modified Daihatsu Mira through badge engineering. Badge engineering is prevalent in Malaysia's automotive industry since it began in 1985 with carmaker Proton. Subsequent Kancils were only rejuvenated cosmetically as Perodua maintained the monocoque structure and tweaked with its engines.

Reception and production

Following its release in 1994, the Kancil became an instant success in Malaysia. The Kancil is popular with beginner drivers and is commonly used in Malaysian driving schools. It was also preferable for its fuel efficiency and easier for parking due to its size. In December 1995, Perodua produced its 50,000th Kancil. By January 1997, 100,000 Kancils had been manufactured, and by 1999 250,000 had been built.

The Kancil was sold in the United Kingdom as the Perodua Nippa before it replace by Perodua Kelisa, and rebadge in Indonesia between 2000 and 2006 as the Daihatsu Ceria.

Facelifts and replacement

The original Kancil underwent two minor facelifts. In 1997, the car's grille and bumpers were better integrated to support to a larger grille and rounded indicator lights. In 2000, the car was given another slight facelift consisting of body-coloured side mouldings, a new grille and reprofiled front bumper with larger indicators.

The Kancil received more extensive restyling in 2002, featuring rounder headlights, taillights and bumpers; its rear license plate was also repositioned onto its hatch from the bumper below. Its interior features a flushed dashboard with the combination instrumentation panel placed in the middle similar to that of the Toyota Yaris. However, it is still mechanically identical to its predecessor, except for the EZi automatic transmission option which is given a fuel-injected powerplant.

Although the Perodua Viva, a new model based on the new Daihatsu Mira, was widely considered a legitimate replacement for the long-running Kancil, Perodua had decided to continue selling the old Kancil and replaced the Perodua Kelisa instead on May 11, 2007.
